About Lydia Smith

Lydia Smith graduated from Dartmouth College in 2004 with a major in fine arts and recreational interests in ecology. After three years spent wishing she were a scientist, she returned to academia in 2007 to study biology. She now works as a researcher in Matteo Garbelotto's lab at UC Berkeley, studying fungi and fungus-like plant pathogens. Her academic interests include all things botanic and fungal, but she is particularly fascinated by fragile ecosystems and their response to disturbance. She hopes to attend graduate school in 2010 to pursue a PhD. She still paints recreationally.
