About Scott Fay

Scott Fay is a Graduate Student in the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of California, Berkeley and a Research Associate at the California Academy of Science. He studies the ecology and evolution of foraminifera, and is particularly interested in the role of endosymbiosis in the evolution of protists. His dissertation work focuses on the symbiotic interactions between Symbiodinium dinoflagellates and reef-dwelling foraminifera. In addition to his involvement with the Moorea Biocode project, Scott studies an invasive foraminifer on the west coast of the United States and the implications of endosymbiosis theory in astrobiology. His fieldwork has taken him to Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia, Egypt, and Mexico.
